About us
Our vision is for a world where all children & women are all equally heard and valued, where they have equitable access and time to devote to education, work, rest and play.
"Changing the world one person at a time"
To achieve this vision, The Butterfly Effect Foundation is committed to working to create the conditions where every child and women has the opportunity to not only live, but also to thrive and achieve their full potential.
Education - Every child has the right to learn
Children's Education
"If children feel safe, they can take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings & grow..."
Without skills for lifelong learning, children face greater barriers to earning potential and employment later in life. They are more likely to suffer adverse health outcomes and less likely to participate in the decisions that affect them – threatening their ability to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
Early Childhood Education (ECE)
Investment in quality early learning/pre-primary education so that young children are ‘ready for school’ has high positive impacts on primary school enrolment, survival and learning, and is cost-effective.
"The question isn't who's going to let me, the question is who's going to stop me"
Discriminatory gender norms and the inequalities they sustain have a disproportionate impact on girls & women, preventing them from claiming their rights, exposing them to harmful practices, driving rights abuses in their homes, relationships and communities, and through embedded structural inequalities that shape their lives from childhood through adulthood.
Some women face even greater challenges due to multiple and intersecting forms of deprivation and marginalisation based on poverty and characteristics such as ethnicity, displacement and location.
The world we want is a world in which no female faces gender-based discrimination, suffers violence or marries before her 18th birthday, and every last girl fully enjoys her right to be protected from harm, to learn, survive and thrive. Her world is one in which her aspirations know no limits and she is free to fulfil her potential, to have equal opportunities, to decide her own future and empower those around her.
When females are educated, empowered, healthy and free from violence and discrimination, their communities are more prosperous and stable. Investing in gender equality is not just the right thing to do – it’s the smart thing to do. But unfortunately females around the globe still face lifelong gender-based inequalities that begin in childhood.
"The single greatest antidote to poverty and social stagnation is the emancipation of women"
Wherever this has been tried, wherever women have been empowered to do as they wish, the economy and the culture have been radically improved.
We believe that eliminating these restrictions is actually a win-win for everybody.
